Location Details - Capri:

Capri is an island located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples in the Campania region of Italy. The main town Capri that is located on the island shares the name. It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic. Some of the main features of the island include the following: the Marina Piccola (the little harbour), the Belvedere of Tragara (a high panoramic promenade lined with villas), the limestone crags called sea stacks that project above the sea (the Faraglioni), the town of Anacapri, the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas. Capri is part of the region of Campania, Province of Naples. The town of Capri is the island's main population centre. The island has two harbours, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). Capri has twelve churches, seven museums and several monuments. The most visited attraction in Capri is the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto). It is a special cave, discovered in the 19th century by foreign tourists and has been a phenomenon ever since. On one side of the grotto are the remains of ancient Roman rock, with a narrow cavern. What's good to eat on Capri? Nearly all restaurants on Capri serve typical island cuisine. An all-time favourite, which you'll find on most menus, Capri's ravioli capresi are filled with cheese and marjoram and served with a tomato sauce. Ideal for a light lunch, or a picnic on the beach, the insalata caprese is a simple salad of tomato, mozzarella, basil and extra virgin olive oil (it's great as a sandwich filling too). Sweet-toothed travellers will love the island's torta caprese, a wonderfully moist chocolate and almond cake. Accompany your meal with a glass or two of local wine and conclude with a shot of chilled limoncello. Despite the vicinity to the port, the water is always incredibly clean.

La Capannina-Via Le Botteghe 12b, Capri  Tel  081-8370732  www.capanninacapri.it/it/  Highly recoomended restaurant, just 100 meters from the Piazzetta. One of Capri's most celebrity-haunted restaurants for decades, the owner's, the De Angeleis family, are genuine hosts, and great people. The discreet flower-decked veranda is ideal for dining by candlelight. Specialties, aside from an authentic Capri wine with the house label, are ravioli capresi and linguine con lo scorfano (flat spaghetti with scorpion fish), squid stuffed with caciotta cheese and marjoram, and an exquisite "Pezzogna" (sea bream cooked whole and topped with a layer of potatoes). The oldest restaurant on the island, now in its third generation, it has a sleekly minimalist interior, but if you want to see and be seen, book a table outside on one of Capri's chicest thoroughfares. The cognoscenti start by sharing a pizza all'Acqua: thin, with mozzarella and a sprinkling of peperoncino (chili). Also try the Gnocchetti al Pesto con Fagiolini Croccanti e Pinoli (dumplings with pesto, beans, and pine nuts)—but leave room for the homemade sweets.
